"Music that balances traditional craft with a broad palette of contemporary expression"

Composer Pavle Gavrilovic was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, where he gained his first musical and compositional training. His works have been performed in the United States and Europe by a variety of soloists and ensembles, including a performance of his String Quartet no.1 “Californian” by the Bay Area-based Friction Quartet and SFCM Chamber Orchestra.

A graduate of the Faculty of Musical Arts in Belgrade, and SFCM, where he studied with Isidora Žebeljan and David Conte respectively, he is currently pursuing a D.M. in Composition at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where his mentor is David Dzubay.

His latest piece, Symphonic Sketches (2025), is his first major symphonic work and a strong representation of his current style.

As a performer, Pavle appears as a classical guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, performing on electric and bass guitar in contemporary and cross-genre settings. His work in popular music includes the indie-pop duo Markus Pavlov, where he contributes as a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.

A dedicated educator, he has taught composition, piano, and guitar at the San Francisco High School of the Arts, The Hamlin School, and The International School of San Francisco.
